  • Air compressor under bonnet

I've got my blue tongue installed on the drivers side above the wheel guard towards the firewall. I had to fabricate a custom made ally base and brackets that attached to various captive nuts in the bodywork. It has been very sucessfull.

With the petrol, grande engine bay room is very limited

After putting a 2nd battery where the charcoal canister originally was there is now not much space for anything else in my engine bay.
You could probably fit the ARB air locker only compressor next to (rearward) the air filter box but we looked at fitting the ARB on-board compressor there today but decided against it.

This is the one we looked at fitting today.

... so, it's now being put in the shelf I have created in the cargo area on the wheel jack side.
    Cheers, Leon

Had the same space limitation but figured id use an air comp more than a dual battery system. So decided on getting a dual battery tray to relocate the charcoal cannister and then mount the comp inside the battery tray. I have the same comp that snaga posted above.

I will be using a battery box (with isolator and all fusing etc in it) that is portable for powering the engel. This also means a bigger battery can be used.

This was also my other option... which I'll be getting down the track but that's actually work related for me. I need to be able to run 240v studio lights on location via a thumper or something similar.

          Re: Air compressor under bonnet

I have just bought a ABR (NOT ARB) Sidewinder Air compressor via ebay, superfast delivery well packaged at $186 inc postage ( it's a xmas pressie from my finance controler) I just had to pull it out of the box for a quick look

It fits perfectly Driver side next to the brake booster on my 90 series RV, Unfortunatly I will have to wait until xmas before I can fit it

I will post photo when done and let you know how it works out in the field

hey snaga I have the larger ARB compressor where your talking about, drivers side wheel arch, behing the air filter box. it took a bit of thinking to get it in there right but it does fit. I had no room left on the other side because I have dual batterys set up the same way as yours.

mines V6 and there is not much spare room for anything under there!!! Ideally I would have liked to fit an endless air set up as thats what i've got in my zook and it's performance is unbeatable. but limited room meant I had to make do with an ARB.

I'll get some pictures up tomorrow for you.

                Re: Air compressor under bonnet

Hi I have just fitted my ABR Sidewinder in the engine bay and thought a few pics of the install may be of help

I did not want to mess with the wireing harness so I needed to use packing washers to raise the unit above it, the easy way was to cut the head off the bolts and by trail and error select the corect amount washers to lift the unit to the right height

at this height the corner of the base plate hit the brake booster so I just niped the corner off

For added protection I slid a short piece of window washer pipe over the edge of the base plate to protect the harness

As space is limited it was easyier to just hold washers in place with tape and fit off the plate

So far so good the plate fits perfectly

To fit the compressor onto the plate just unbolt the fuse box to give you a little more room

The compressor runs very well with no vibration , it just sits there snug as a bug

The lead and battery clamps tuck neatly at the firewall end and the airline sits behind the battery

I will fit air tank hose lines , regultors at a later date

                Phil
