  • Factory radio display

    Hi guys,

i have a 2000 GXL Prado and got into it the other day, only to find that all of the dash display on the factory radio face has gone. the radio is the standard factory cass/radio/single CD. the radio itself works fine in volume etc, but all of the face display is gone, the preselect buttons dont work, the search button doesnt work, wasnt able to check the CD operation at the time.

the car has been sitting for a couple of weeks as my wife was unable to drive it due to an operation. i jumped in it to go up the shops and noticed the radio. car started fine, no signs of a low battery etc

    anyone got any thoughts ?

    regards Tony

does the radio run at all? if not, check your fuse box. if it partially works but just those buttons and screen dont, then its the radio thats faulty

Ive got the double din radio out of my 2000 VX spare since i fitted a bluetooth stereo to mine. PM me if you want it.

      Goose,

thanks for the reply. as best as i can ascertain in the quick drive last week, the radio seems to operate, just the display 's gone. i will dig a little deeper on the weekend.

re your radio, thanks for the offer but i will see whats happening first, then maybe i will take you up on your offer.

      thanks heaps

        Hi Tony,

I'd almost say that if you are going to rip the old radio out, put a new single din in. Not too hard to do. Then if the Prado is yours, mention to the wife that you need to fill the hole, and put a comms radio in there.

The wiring isn't too difficult, there is a schematic somewhere around for it.

*shrug* It's what I did, as the cd player was naffed. Now I can listen to music with no moving parts, and never have to hear the same song twice.
