Bought this from a fellow member (thanks David) as he's installing a full bar but I don't want to at this stage as doing so will mean I'll need to upgrade suspension which is not worthwhile for my rig. Just thought I'll put down my experiences in installing this.
Anyway, the TJM one go thru the bottom hole in the bumper bar unlike the Toyota one which comes up from under the bumper bar. When I looked at my rig I was scratching my head as the chassis members have end caps which follow the inside contour of the bumper. Couldn't see how to remove it until I removed the bumper itself. After that the job was straight forward:
1. Remove grill. To do this open bonnet. Only one center screw as the rest are clips which pop out readily.
2. Undo all the nuts & screws on bottom of bumper first then remove the top ones. Center ones are just plastic so take care not to break them. Pop these out from inside unless you have new ones then you can afford to break them.
3. End caps on chassis are held in by one bolt each, remove and clean up rust if any.
4. Undo bolts holding the hold down loop on one side and the recovery point on the other. Dont throw bolts away as you will need them.
5. Position mounting plates and recovery hook and bolt. TJM mounting plate uses the bolt from the end cap as well. I had a spare recovery hook so I did the same on the other chassis member. Tighten bolts to recommended torque.
5. Put back bumper and bolt up, tightening everything.
6. Put back grill
7. Position nudge bar and bolt up tight.
That's it. Polish bar and have a well earned beer or whatever takes your fancy. Not so hard.
