I've been searching and searching for this bloody video, couldnt seem to find it, so I got onto my contacts, and found out that it has been removed from the net, this happened when the last lot of bullbar ban rubbish was going on, as they were using that footage against bullbars.97 VX Grande, with front & rear air lockers, ARB Sahara winch bar with tigers 11 winch, 2" EFS lift, 265/75/16 Achilles Desert hawk XMT, and more.

Declan, have you seen the Bullbar Comparo that 4WD Action did some time ago? This comparo covered 13 different bars - OE Toyota Steel bar, TJM T15 Alloy Deluxe bar, TJM T15 Steel Fleet Bar, Ironman Black Commercial Winch Bar, ARB Steel Deluxe Bar, ARB Steel Commercial Bar, Opposite Lock Premium Bar, Opposite Lock Steel XROX Tube Bar, ECB Big Tube Alloy Bar, Smart Bar, Tuff Alloy 5-Post bar, Tuff Steel 5-Post Bar. They used a Toyota Hilux as the vehicle and was quite informative. I have a scanned copy of the comparo (but I'm sure it's on their website somewhere), if you want it, PM me and I can send it to you...Originally posted by williade View PostPlease do. What we need to realise here is that if we are going to to comment on things like this, we need the facts to back it up. Half of the internet is hear-say and rumours. For what it's worth, copyright laws I'm pretty sure cover the 'look' of something. Under your reasoning Crooza, Hyundai could build a prado that looks and is identical 100% to say, a 150 series. As long as they drop the thickness of the metal throughout, then according to this logic they would be able to sell these cars and My Toyota could do absolutely SFA about it. Somehow I don't think so.Originally posted by croozza View PostAppearance wise, the 2 end loops equate to about 10% difference, the rest is in the thickness of the metal and the mounting system
Now - let's at least be scientific about these claims. Let's have the data to support this theory.
1) Croozza - you have the Sahara bar, so please get some calipers and measure the thickness of the tubing, the thickness of the main steel bumper section, and the average thickness of the mounting brackets.
2) jjgsxr1000 or MJRandom, or someone else with the Ironman protector bar - grab some calipers and measure the exact same components of the Ironman bar.
Once we have these data, then we can be qualified to make these sorts of comments. Until then, people are spreading nothing but rumours and hearsay. Regarding the footage - who was using it against bullbars? I never say the footage, the government never public displayed the footage. I've never heard of it before. Interesting, because you would think if it really showed what you are saying, it would have been plastered across every 4x4 forum in the country. It would be interesting to know who was the 'independent' body that did the testing, and whether the exact same forces were applied to the exact same sections of the bullbars, respectively. A real independent test would give all of this information.
For what it's worth, if you like the ironman gear, go and buy it. Everything i've used of theirs has been excellent, and I couldn't be happier. I don't exclusively buy ironman though, and have a lot of TJM gear. Their stuff is also good. In reality, would I rather an ironman bar on the front than the standard toyota bumper or even the sovereign bar if I was to come across Mr Skippy on the highway? OF COURSE I WOULD!!! And as for damage, any of the bars, ARB and TJM included, will be damaged hitting a roo at 100kmh if the stike is full frontal. If you are smart and have insurance, you will get a new bar, so what does it really matter?
Let's see the actual thickness figures I talked about above. Then we can have an 'educated' discussion about this.

I can not remember who the independnt body was, however the testing was all above board, each bar was placed into the same jig, and a 40kg bag was droped from the same height (10m) just off to the right of the bull bar mount, the worst off bar was the polymer bars, they just folded, and allowed the pojectile through, then the bar just sprung back into its normal look, some steel bars were next, as they just folded up, then there were some alloy ones and so on and so on, The best performing bar was infact the Sahara bar.Originally posted by iantz View PostIt would be interesting to know who was the 'independent' body that did the testing, and whether the exact same forces were applied to the exact same sections of the bullbars, respectively. Ian.
What the test did not show or allow for, was every inpact or accident involving a bull bar is different, and the way a bullbar reacts from one car to another will vary.
I can measure the thickness of the plate steel for the Sarhara bar if you like, but I can not do the thickness of the tubing, as I'm not going to pull the bar apart and remove the winch ect to do that.97 VX Grande, with front & rear air lockers, ARB Sahara winch bar with tigers 11 winch, 2" EFS lift, 265/75/16 Achilles Desert hawk XMT, and more.

Ah ha!!!!!
I found this vid by ARB, but they have basically done the same test, unfortunately they dont say what bar was tested. It is more about sprooking their bars.
