  • Rear Bar

After a trip on the weekend through one of the forests near Melbourne i noticed my rear plastic bumper had been caught on something and has been brought back a couple of inches, unplugging the indicator/brake lights on one side. No huge drama, but ive always thought the rear bumber was a little "lame". Does anyone know of a rear bar manufacturer or has anyone made their own?

    cheers

Besides ARB and TJM, I would not know where to go, unless you know of a metal fabricator that can help you out!

I know of only one place that made rear bars for the 90 series, and they have stoped making them, and they looked pretty terible anyway. Im trying to justify a custom job at the moment, if you find anything let us know.

            Hi
Got the quote. It came in at $2800 plus $350 fitted which included the twin wheel carrier and rear light clamp. It was the same price for 1 wheel carrier and a single jerry holder. The other option was just the rear bar with no bits for $1350 plus fitting ($350).If you have a toyota tow bar or hayman reece tow bar already on your prado then the opp lock rear bar would fit with out having to change tow bars.

            Cheers Rob

Thanks for that Rob. Thats kinda what i thought it would cost, bit of a bummer.
Does anyone have any idea what a custom one will cost, im thinking very broad ball park figures, im assuming more than one of the generic ones?

              cheers

Rocktruk, are you going to be knocking it up yourself? When youre done id love any plans or tips youre willing to share!
Have you decided which design? Will you be looking at adding a wheel carrier?

Well, I've made a start - I have the 2" tube for the receiver hitch.....

I won't be adding a wheel carrier, as the Prado is unlikely to be carrying anything larger than the 235/85s. I built the last bar on my 80, all neatly plasma cut and shut. 54 seperate bits, all welded and ground. Glad I wasn't paying me to build it! A decent catch for the carrier was one of the biggest hassles.
I've just found a fabricator in Canberra that can bend 2- 3mm plate, so out with the cardboard and scissors to start making templates.

Stay tuned, the project will start once uni winds down for the year and I get weekends back.

                          Hey all,

Anyone seen any pictures of the Opposite Lock rear bar?

I'm pretty keen to have a look and possibly purchase one.

                          Cheers
