Looks like you are using this car as a river crossing boat Do not have the experience, but according to the manual, you need to re-lube after each heavy contact with water, can any one here confirm this?

HI Grande
I found after a recent trip that there are 3 bolt holes just behind the second row seats (where the child restaints bolt down). Maybe the water was running in through these holes?? I would be more worried about water in the diffs/gearbox than wet carpet in your 4 wheeled 'boat'

I've also had some water come in on the passenger side footwell (middle row of seats area). On my 2000 GXL there is a rubber bung/grommet under the carpet in that area that has some cables going from inside, to outside. The rubber had dried out and/or split allowing water in. I replaced the bung, and siliconed around the wires. Been fine since.

My vehicle was second hand when I bought it so I'm not sure if some bungs have fallen out or been removed but I found a large opening in the middle of the left rear passenger foot well.
I only found it after I pulled the carpet up while laying some cable to the rear for a power outlet. Its about 35mm in diameter and is hidden by the fuel tank/chassis so its difficult to see from underneath (from memory).
I cant remember off the top of my head, but I think I also found a similar opening on the right rear passenger footwell as well? I think it may be hidden from underneath by the exhaust system.
I'm also pretty sure that a mate of mine complained about his Hilux when he pulled the carpet up after drowning it only to find that there were large openings in the floor that had no bung in it? He has owned the vehicle from new and hadnt removed them. Perhaps they leave the factory like that?
All this sounds pretty vague I know, perhaps I'd be better posting in the topic about my age? :?
