That depends on the roof rack, you need to know the difference between static and dynamic loads. Most roof racks quote dynamic load (this is the load while the vehicle is in motion), the dynamic load is always lower than the static load. Basically the static load can be as high as 400kg (also dependant on the type of roof rack). Where as the dynamic load could be as low as 50kg per bar (if using a roof rack system that uses bars). Never buy a roof rack that is not load rated, and remember the more weight you have on the roof the easier it will be to roll over and play dead.
