Invariably going bush means scratches and dents to paintwork. What I'd like to know is what everyone else is doing or not doing. Do you just accept it and just do those that may be prone to corrosion or do nothing?

Just wear them with pride. Some guys reccomend polishing the car before 4wd trips so that branches "glide" over body and don't scratch as much...My Prado Buildiup Since 2004

I basically just left the scratches on my 90 series for years. Never got down to the metal, so it's just a 'looks' issue.
Now I'm getting ready to sell it, I've had the vehicle detailed (incl a cut and polish), and nearly all the scratches, other than a few deep ones that went through to the undercoat, are gone.
Hope the info helps.

Slug, I wished mine was white but I bought it off a mate who had it since new and was fastidous in keeping it in top condition. Mine's a dark green mica so scratches show up real easy. Lucky it's a 1996 model so I won't be worrying about the marks too much nor of any small dents. I can live with those.
My wife's Corolla has collected so many supermarket dents over the years such that it's not worth buying vehicles new.
After returning from the first time we went bush my friend tried the Turtle product, the one which is for scratches, and a lot of the surface scratches were removed. So that's something for others to try on their vehicles.
Thanks for replying

There's a clear film you can "paint" on your car that protects the paint from scratches. I can't remember the name of it but it just washes off when you're ready to take it off.
Pretty sure TJM sell it.2008 GXL M6 D4D, Silver

A few months ago I read a posting in the 4wdmonthly forum where someone bought clear contact plastic (cheap) at the supermarket and applied it to the sides of his 4by before major bush trips. His description made out that it was not too hard to do. After the bush trip, simply peel off the contact. You could try a search on that forum. I think it was in a thread similar to this one.2019 Prado GXL 2.8L Diesel

There's an excellent product made by 3M that can be applied to just about any part your vehicle.
It goes on using a similar method to window tinting film but is clear and has enough stretch to it that it can be applied over curves in the bodywork.
I don't know what name it's marketed under in the rest of the world but have a look at this South African site to see the product with an explanation of how it's applied, examples of how it works etc.
http://www.vpsprotection.co.za/
I would expect, being a 3M product, that it's available worldwide.
I had it applied to my new Prado before taking delivery and it allows me to go out into the bush to play without cringing every time some or other bush or branch scrapes along the side of the vehicle.
Tim
Edit: 3M calls the product "Scotchgard™ Paint Protection Film". If you search for that name you'll find plenty of info on the 'Net.

Guys, there is a product called Autoskin and Autoskin Pro. One is good for up to 6 weeks the other is good for 6-9 months. These are both roll on peel off like cling wrap.Brilliant for saving the paint from scratchesand everything else.
I have used the Autoskin and reccomend it also for helping with the clean up after a good weekend.Simply hose off or peel off and throw in bin!
Doesn't look that flash when first put on but when cured is basically clear.

It actually looks and feels like a skin membrane. All these are available from the Gold Coast.
Being a new 90 owner we will now have to put this on each time we go away to protect and save a lot of cleaning.
Hope this info helps.

Careful of AutoSkin!!!!
Be careful of that AutoSkin. In Western Aussie and NZ they had lots of trouble with it. Exercise caution!!!! Try using 3M clear membrane or there is a product sold by TJM called ducoarmour and it is manufactured by a company named Goop Guys on the Sunshine Coast. I have used it twice and it works a treat.

AutoSkin, 3M and Ducoarmour
Not sure about who is who of the removable coatings, however I called the goop guys and they say they have nothing to do with auto skin (quite strongly i might say). As i stated earlier `I could not`get that autoskin stuff to peel off even after i spoke to the auto skin people directly (Kylie). Used gerni and everything.
I still say to use either 3M or Ducoarmour as I won`t go through that exercise again as I have scratches and marks where the other product was. Try for yourselves.
Minor scratches
Hi Guys, new to your forum. Just wondering if you think that these might polish out? I know they're hardly noticeable, but I'm fussy!
