  • Radiator upper support beam

I've recently noticed that the upper radiator support beam on my 95 series suffered some fractures during my Canning Stock Route trip last year. I was hoping to be able to just replace the whole beam as there is a small piece missing where the aircon condenser is bolted.

Online drawings seem to show the beam as a separate piece, but a wrecker I spoke to informs me that in the vehicle he has, the beam is spot welded to the rest of the sub frame/radiator assemblies.

Can anyone confirm if this is the case? If so I might have to resort to having the beam repaired insitu which will probably be a lot more involved.

Not really a confirmation but here's my 2c...

The only parts I've ever removed is the radiator itself (via 4 bolts), and the 2 radiator brackets either side of the radiator (via another 4 bolts). Those brackets mount to the body - I can't see the any welds on that next section, more like that it's been stamped together, but it appears to be a permanent structure to me. If it were me I'd have a "soft" attempt at pulling it apart, but have a backup plan in place - ie welding equipment or mobile welder.

I have one such beam in my shed to eventually replace a cracked upper support, now stop drilled and ok for the present. It is a U-channel that bolts to the body at either end. It may be that it is sikaflexed to the fenders or similar.
      cheers

Ended up taking vehicle to local panel beater. Fractures welded up and sprayed for $120.
