Front Hook

Further to my query regarding a rear recovery point; i had a call from the 4wd mob here who were fitting my rear recovery point. Apparently the hook at the front is a tie down only! :shock:
Because its of a decent size a few mates and i assumed it was a recovery point, apparently not. So, does everyone else have this hook? Is it on from day dot :?:

What year prado are you talking about?
Late 2005 saw the front hook beefed up to the size and capability of being a recovery point.
Search button on this forum will show you threads here with a picture of the difference.

A 2000. I think the pics ive seen on here are 120 series aren’t they?

Hi Ya Slug,

Have you got your owners manual?... If so, have a look at the towing section. I was curious myself as to the suitability of the hooks for recovery... it mentions the hooks as recovery points if bogged but they are very vague as you would expect to avoid being accountable.

I don't know if these are OE hooks but they were there when I bought the car 2nd hand...

Front hook, drivers side only...




Rear hook, passenger side only...

Yeah Snaga, that first one looks like what i had. When i picked it up i forgot to get the old one. It just seemed pretty heavy duty for a tie down. Ahh well jobs done now, looks good and at least I know these ones will be right.

Got a pic of what they put on... would be keen to see.

I've been thinking of doubling up the recovery points with a couple more hooks either side... just incase
