  • Slotted Or Not Slotted

Hey all, just wondering about your thoughts on putting in slotted rotors all round, or just standard rotors.
I am going to go with a good brand i know of which is dba. but i don't know which ones to get, some people i know say slotted brakes fill up with crap and others say they they get rid of it all.
    Please help cheers

    Re: Slotted Or Not Slotted

    I'd definitely go slotted.
No personal experience in the matter with 4wds (although upgraded to drilled and slotted on my commodore and loved it), but in theory, even if the brakes did fill up with crap (it'd only be mud they could fill up with), they'd still stay cooler due to mud not holding heat as well as steel

      Re: Slotted Or Not Slotted

I have slotted all round, haven't had a problem with them picking up debris, but haven't been on the sand since they were fitted, that will be interesting

Bought mine from these guys: http://www.rdabrakes.com.au/index.php/rotors.html

        Re: Slotted Or Not Slotted

go with the slotted but if there is an option for slotted and cross drilled avoid them as when they heat up and you hit a water crossing they will crack

          Re: Slotted Or Not Slotted

I have just replaced mine with the RDA s as mentioned above,i got sick of needing to replace rotors before pads where worn out due to warping due to heat buildup and thought i would try slotted rotors to alleviate the heat build up.We live at the top of one of the steepest hill on the hawkesbury side of the Blue mts and braking in the auto prado becomes an issue.1 week old and they feel not to bad maybe not as good as new standard rotors but will wait and see how they perform and last.

Slots on rotors are the to scrap glazing off pads, improving braking.Cross drilled is for cooling

                  Re: Slotted Or Not Slotted

Slotted rotors will not pick up mud or sand or dirt and get cought in them, crossed drilled ones will however, so avoid the cross drilled ones.

                    Re: Slotted Or Not Slotted

Croozza is right; the cross drilled rotors will pick up more debris which is why I don't use them for off road. The directional slotting on a rotor clears gasses, dust and debris for better braking while maintaining maximum friction. If you get the DBA 4x4 survival series rotors, they have the kangaroo paw ventilation system which rapidly expels heat. Here's there video on how it works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PzWFn6lGBs

The 4000 series rotors are the same as the survival series but go through and extra heat treatment process to resist warping or brake fade. It also increases both rotor and pad life.

It's definitely worth upgrading to the slotted rotors and the 4000 series are even better still if they are within your budget
