Brake Upgrade - Brembos?

hey all, this is my first post here,

bought my 97 prado a couple of months ago and have since been impressed with it. but not quite happy with the stopping distace. was wondering if a brake upgrade to say a brembo system would help. im a final year fitter and 1st class machinist (toolmaker), so fitting them wont be to much of a drama, but was wondering if it would help much.

You can always upgrade to brembos etc but IMO the first stop for you is to get the stock brake system back to what it should be.
* do a complete change of brake fluid with good quality stuff. not just a replace what's in the reservoir and bleed it, but a complete flush and renew
* replace all brake pads with good quality brand new
* replace all 4 discs with new (RDA/BDA are usually cheaper than OEM)
Don't forget to bed them in properly and you will hopefully probably find that stopping is a much better experience.

There are other things that have a say in stopping performance as well such as:
* shock absorber operation (are they worn or getting there)
* tyres (tyre pressure, age, etc)

a decent set of pads as dhula. i use bendix 4wd, and a set of slotted rotors will make a big difference, you can also machine the slotted rotors if they get warped over a period of time, just do it on a milling machine. this would be a hell of a lot cheaper then upgradeing the calipers, as brembos aint cheap thats what i would try first, if you arent happy go with option 2 brembos. cheers samo

Dont forget the brake master too, as the fluid could be getting past the shaft seals, as this problem will decrease your braking effectiveness.
