  • Annoying Clicking noise

    I have a noise coming from under to the rear of my car ( I think) it sounds like i have something stuck in my tyre but a bit deeper sound. It isnt my tyres as it is happening with my old set and my new Mickey T's. It happens when you are low to mid revs accelerating. Stops if your put your foot on the clutch and when you take your foot off the accelerator. Please help if any one else has experienced this. Hopefully its not a too big job. Thanks Mass

    Sounds like it is something making the noise only when it is loaded up, so it could be a uni joint, or bearing. Which one it is, is the question. You will have to see if you can get any abnormal movement in the driveline.

      Hmm sounds like a bit of work thanks for your time in answering my question hopefully by this i can start driving a quiet car =) except for the hum from my new Mickeys =).

        Just heard back from my mechanic crown wheel and pinion are knackered. Couple of teeth chewed out.... So second handy on its way... Wow i wish i had some more cash to get a locker put in at the same time..... Off to sweet talk the minister of finance =O

          I started reading this thread, thinking I have the same problem. I got it after a challenging track on the weekend.
          Just got it back from the mechanic who said that the diff is fine, no evidence of metal in the oil etc. He thinks it's possibly a split in part of the cardon/uni joint near the transfer case. Mine is an auto so it's not the clutch. I too was hoping I'd need a new diff centre, so I started getting quotes for a locker. Now I have no immediate justification. Still I might go ahead anyway

            Haha It turns out it was the same problem. 2 teeth chipped off crown wheel.

            The mechanic discovered it while putting a locker in. Now I have to wait a few days while they source a new crown wheel and pinion

              The 90 series Diff club club has a new member!

              Its a pity that both front an rear crown wheels didn't go. You would have had justification for new diff ratios and twin lockers!

                I just changed my diff ratios so have heaps of diff parts lying around, including crown/pinions...

                      Just had new clutch fitted to my 90 series at Toyota and final cost was ~$1600 including clutch and left parking light :-(

                        Have you tried greasing your uni's. A dry uni can make quite a clicking sound and get worse the more milews you travel with it.

                          The mechanic quoted me 'around $1000' so that was a bit vague. Apparently there is a 5-6 wait for them out of Japan.

                            I finally got her back today. Glen's 2nd hand crown wheel and my pinion (yes I know you shouldn't mix) have been lashed well so there is no diff whine. Runs like a new one now, well it pretty much is all new ...
