  • Leaky plug on transmission body

I found a leaky plug in the body of the transmission in my Prado and I don't know what the plug is.

There are 2 plugs in the first photo, the one on the right with the black top is the leaking one. The surface has cracked (second photo), allowing oil to drop out from the transmission after driving.

I know from the manual that the plug on the left is the reverse light siwtch. Both plugs are on the driver's side of the transmission.

Does anyone know what black top plug on the right hand side is?

    Thanks

I'm going to have a guess. Neutral position switch.

Are you sure its leaking? I changed all the filler/drain plugs on my vehicle a few months ago and went back to check a couple of weeks later and that particular switch looked to be leaking oil.

I sprayed the area with degreaser as there was a large amount of oil involved, only to find out it was the transmission filler plug that was leaking. I presume the oil was being forced up onto the switch as I was driving along making it look like that was the source of the leak. Mind you, your picture doesnt seem to show the same amount of leaking oil my had.

I think it is the AT temp switch.

Auto? Yes very likely. Is OP's Prado manual or auto?

Mines a manual and has the same switch (and had a lot more oil around it). Its a lot cleaner looking now.

Do manual prados have transmission temp warning indicators like the auto?
