  • Dual case adapter that uses standard rear transfer

    hi all,

Spotted this the other day, its a dual case adapter for the first gen Tacoma (u.s only toyota ute) but it uses the same gear box as the prados, but is only avaliable in a petrol version. this dual case adapter looks like it could work for the 3.4 prados...

    http://www.trail-gear.com/tacoma-dual-case-adapter-kit

ill have to get under my truck and have a look at the shift linkages to see how they would beed to be modified, and new driveshafts would have to be made. the price of the kit actually seems pretty reasonable and a standard transfer case from a wrecker shouldnt be to much....

i have been looking into options for a dual case/lower ratio and ths looks to be the most affordable...

Thanks for sharing. If anyone manages to fit their Prado with a dual or part time transfer I think it'll be you!

I'd be some time before I could consider changing the transfer. With the 4.88 ratios it goes well enough.

haha, i guess so, i probly seen as the fourms mad man by this point...

Been meaning to ask you, what effect has the 4.88s had on fuel usage? beacuse RV diffs and 33' muddies dont really make for a fuel friendly machine....

f/economy isn't good on my rig (auto), but with the ratios I'd say it improved about 1L/100km

Hi all, just wanted to add i have now found a Dual case setup from MArlin Crawler that is made to suit the transmission/transfer in the Prados.

            http://www.marlincrawler.com/transfe...ne-ups/tacobox

Unlike the Trailgear kit this is the complete unit. the Marlin crawler site is also a treasure trove of information on toyota transmissions.
