Hi all,
I had the front diff, front drive shaft and stub axles out of the car for a week or so while I was still driving it (4wd locked of course). I didn't think there would be any problems, until I started hearing some squeaking noises (coming from the front end that seemed to match the speed of the wheels), and then the brakes going spongey about 20min later.
Someone suggested that maybe the stub axles and the big 34 or 36mm nut hold the wheel bearings in, so without the axles the wheel bearings worked their way loose.
Is this right? Does anyone know anything more about this?
Do you think I've killed my wheel bearings?
