  • Transfer Case/Gearbox seperation

Wondering if anyone can help me.

I have a 99 V6 manual and want to know that when seperating the transfer case from the gearbox, do you lose the oil from the gearbox or just the transfer case?
Had a mechanic put a new transfer case in recently and left the gearbox as is. After approx 1000km's started to develop a whine in the gearbox and then the box failed all together. Upon checking gearbox found it had no oil what so ever and is now destroyed. So looks like I'm up for a new gear box and possibly transfer case as mechanic says he never touched the gearbox so not his fault.
If anyone can offer some advise, would be much appeciated.

    Thanks

I think they may have drained the box by mistake, and forgot to refill it, I would take it further.
but to answer your question, no you do not loose the oil in the GB if you take the transfer off.

Thanks crooza. Much appreciated and yes I am taking it further but sometimes with these guys it's harder to get them to admit they've made a mistake than a doctor.

      But you never know.

      Thanks again

its too much of a coinsedence, that that work was done and then there was no oil in gearbox.
as long as there are no leaks.......
