  • rear diff blown.. need new one

    hey guys,
looks like my rear diff is blown. took it apart and found about 6 teeth missing and another couple chipped.

so i need to buy another one i guess. its a 1998 2.7L petrol.

whats my best option? buy one from a wreckers? or rebuild somehow?

    what do you guys think?

    Which gears are damaged?

If it's the centre (side and spider gears), all you need is a locker installed, and it's fixed!

If it's the crown and/or pinion, well, that takes more labour to reinstall properly. So with parts + labour, it'll probably end up twice the cost of buying a second hand one. I'd only rebuild in this case, if I were changing ratios.

So it is the crown wheel, it should be an easy part to get, as I think it is the same ratio as the Hilux. Only buy new, and dont get the cheap chinese ones either.
