  • 90 Prado 4-speed Transmisson?

Hi guys, you may have heard my recent cry of help pertaining to my trans and today it stopped workin the gear just simply refused to engage itself and i was unable to drive;the engine just kept revving. I was left stranded far from home and eventually i got my brother to tow it it home with our Suzuki.
Now, my next step requires some help from you guys. I need the model number for my transmission and i really hope you can help me out here. It's a 2.7L 3rz-fe petrol engine with four-speed automatic transmission. I poked around underneath the van and saw the Aisin-Warner logo molded onto the side of the transmission. Can anybody suggest anything? Please?

I cant help you directly, but if you take your VIN to your nearest Yota dealership, they can tell you exactly.

Note: Just saw your in Trinidad. This still shouldn't be a problem but if someone here on the forum works at a dealer, perhaps they can help?

Right, I'm determined to help you on this one! :P

On every Toyota there is a build plate mounted on the firewall. Here is mine...(apparently showing your VIN to the world is a No-No due to theft or something or other. Please steal my car.)

Third last line line is Trans/Axle A343F A02A

That means my car has the A343F transmission. Find out what your is and shove it into google... "Toyota Transmission XXXXX" like this... and follow the yellow brick road.

        Check you 4WD gear stick

Just a thought before you do anything else -- the same thing happened to me once. Got in the car to drive away; put it in gear; engine revs but nothing. Discovered after about 10 minutes of checking everything, that the passenger had accidentally bumped the 4WD High/Low range gear stick to the left of the Shifter and knocked it into Neutral between the two ranges. Shifted back into High range and drove away. Just a thought.

sorry no! the transfer was alright. Lemme give you a good explanation of the problem. So i had gone to the hardware and loaded up a lot of material on the roof racks. Got in the van and switched the gear to drive, however i didn't 'feel' the van switch into drive(hope you understand what i mean). I pressed on the accelerator and nothing happened. i played with the gear a bit and when i pressed the accelerator the van lurched forward then stopped and it kept doing that; like there was this 'on and off,on and off' effect even though the engine was racing at 4000 rpm, you know what i mean? So i got a push off the road, then i called my brother who arrived 3 hours later and he towed me. End of story.

Unfortunately, it's probably a rebuild or a exchange unit, mate.
I mean, I am only guessing here too, as I have not looked at the vehicle and what is going on.
Is the colour of the ATF black and smells burnt?
              The Roo.
The ATF's fine, 'Mr. Roo'! Today i finished removing the engine(bloody electricals ) and i discovered the source of the problem : a severely bent flexplate and a literally 'mashed up' torque converter. Yikes! i know! it wore out a bit of the crankshaft but i think the engine will be fine. So i've sent it to repair and i'll get a price by tomorrow and if it's too expensive i'll order it online.
