  • Leak in rear diff.... Advice appreciated.

    Hi all,

I noticed a leak in my rear diff last night... I have taken it by my mechanic this morning and he thinks it may be a gasket. I am taking it back to him tomorrow for further inspection and possibly repair.

Is there anything else that I can be getting him to look at whilst he possibly has the rear axle out??

    Thanks for any advice.

    Cheers,

    Rob

Hi Rob, there's only really 4 places the diff can leak oil, the axle seals on either end, pinion seal or housing gasket (unless you've punctured through the housing somewhere). Time for a locker while its out maybe?

Sunny you read my mind!! Actually made a call today to price an airlocker at ARB just in case... Rear alone with air compressor installed doesn't leave much change from 2 grand... In saying that, if the repair bill gets to high for the diff as it is, the locker might be a serious consideration.

      Cheers, Rob.
