  • Prado - advice on locating possible bearing issue

    Hello,

After converting to Land Cruisers from landrovers I have hit a problem.
    I've a few ideas:
    1) central drive shaft bearing
    2) wheel bearing
    3) another bearing in the axel area

Car is a Prando 2001 3.4L petrol GXL Auto.
When driving, I am getting a consistent revolving rumbling noise - it is coming from the center of the car.
Noise is definitely related to a rotating part so expecting it to be a bearing.
the frequency of the noise increases as the car speeds up - in time with the rate of revolution of the drive shaft/wheels turning

Its an auto, which i am unfamiliar with, but when I put it in neutral when driving, the noise still exists. hinting at a bearing within the axle however the noise is not louder at either side so perhaps not a wheel bearing?

I am currently in australia, without access to tools otherwise I would take things apart and investigate. So I would like to pin point the issue before I find a local garage where I can rent their unit for half a day to fix the issue.

Any advice would be really great,

    Thank you very much
