  • Rear tailshaft unijoint grease nipple is GONE..

Believe it or not... once I upgraded my suspension to the TD all round... I went off-road... set the suspension up to the softest setting and was blown away by the amount of flex I now had at the back.. then, while climbing out of a rut... the most god-awful metallic 'whacking', crunching sound was heard... no idea what it was until I got home and crawled under the car to find that the grease nipple from the rearmost unijoint was sheared off, after crunching down onto the sub-tank bash plate.. and doing a good job at bending a four inch length of metal into a prezzle..

SO.. question... How do I replace the grease nipple? Help...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated..

    Cheers,
    Paul

This is not an uncommon problem, many people plug the hole and replace the nipple for re-greasing only. As to digging out the thread of the old one... don't know if its possible to drill it out or not. idk

I've now been told a small 'easy out' might do the trick... may have to give it a go... not many other options before having to replace the joint.. :?

      Cheers,
      Paul.

Hi Marvin, I too did the same thing not long ago after the lift kit went in. If you choose to replace the nipple, remove the tank guard and bend that part of the tank away from the uni joint. Next is to try and shift the tank guard away from the impact area by using a rheemer or drill the mounting tabs so they make a slot. You can get a fair bit of clearence by doing this. The day I rectified mine I took if for a run and hasnt fouled since. Also checkout this- http://www.lcool.org/technical/90_serie ... uling.html
Its surprising how much movement you get out of the rear axle.

          Thanx zookcubr...
Just before I went on my last run with the club, I took off the bash plate and bent about 6" worth of the steel into a banana shape, bending it towards the tank... the straight edge and corner has been all curved in towards the tank.. If it's still no good, I think I will have to go with your idea and push it back more.

Thanx for the advice, much appreciated.

          Cheers,
          Paul.
