How Much Oil

Was just wondering if anyone can give an almost accurate amount of how much oil does an 02 auto transmission hold, I'm currently having a disagreement with my mechanic, the book says 2 litres and my mechanic has put 4 litres in it, if 4 litres is to much is this a problem

Hi Dixie,

Answer depends on wether it was a drain and refill or a pan off service and refill.

Pan off sevice will require more oil.

So leethal, what your saying is if they only drained it and didn't remove the sump it would be less than if they removed the sump, I rang a toyota dealership and they said that it would probably be about 4 to 5 litres capacity, this has now explained a few things.

All the books i read when buying the oil said 2L, having the same type of gearbox in my commodore (toyota power 8) ) thought it was odd so bought 4L anyway. The Prado had the correct amount of oil using the dipstick and when drained from the plug had just over 4L in the drain tin. Re-filled with 4L again... so far so good...
