G'day there all , and thanks to the board for allowing me to become a community member of Pradopoint.com.
I have an issue with my 2001 prado gxl 3ltr turbo diesel, a couple of times the shift has jumped out of gear ( 2 wd ) from take off , into nuetral . Then on the weekend the damn thing jumped out of 2nd gear ( 4 WD ) low range on a slight incline , slippery grass - shailey type ground . Quite a noise it made as well , being under load and all.
The other day i did a test and whilst increasing speed in 3rd gear i managed to pull the shift out of gear into nuetral ( under load ). This i believe is not supposed to happen , so the first thing i am going to try is use a thicker oil , say 75/85 castrol and some mollybond gearbox grease.
Has anyone had this happen to them and what did they do to rectify the problem, if they had to have a fully rebuild of the gearbox = how much did it cost them . My Prado has 212,000 klm,son the clock if that helps, cheers and thanks once again for the opportunity to join this site.
