I'm not up to speed on the 2.7, any idea of which model transfer case you have? I may have some info I can send you.

How long have you been driving it around with the center diff locked?

        Re: Stuck gear selector

to be honest i dont know. went on a large trip over last 2 days in mud and dirt and realise until half way when I went to select low. I didn't notice the position as it is a new vehicle for me. No strange smells from transfer case but when I removed top side whilst away and found some some dark plastic substance once I removed clip and gear knob. Seems to be plastic not metal like. I took of the clip and removed gear selector but could not make any progress. No books at all with vehicle so struggling. Trying to find workshop manual somewhere.

to be honest i dont know
I have info for the VF2A, VF3B, VF3BM, VF4B and VF4BM transfer cases. They are all very similar, just don't know what the 2.7 Prado has in it.

Let me know if any of the above is of use.

            Re: Stuck gear selector

            Hi All,
Thanks everyone for your replies. Well I have sorted this finally. As it turns out someone, mechanic or previous owner had removed 4wd selector and replaced incorrectly. So you were actually unable to select anything other thn 4Hl. Spring inside was busted which was replaced for$12 from toyota. Thankfully transfer case is ok. Cheap solution to what could have been a very big problem. Thanks again for your help.
            Cheers

                Re: Stuck gear selector

hey mate, with it being stuck that becomes hard, but i know mine sometimes get stuck in 4L, what i did is got underneath and geased that hell out of the drive train. and it now pops strait out of lock.

don't know if it will help but might be worth doing that, then bump the car forward and back a few times, then try.

                Cheers

                  Re: Stuck gear selector

Since I bought my 09 GXL my 17 yr old has been driving my 98 GXL. Took my 16yr old for some driving lessons in the 90 series which I haven't personally driven for about 3 months and guess what?

Transfer lever won't budge out of 4H.

Looks like I'll have to pull the console and covers out and see what the matter is. Hopefully, it's only a bush like described in previous posts.

17 yr old swears he hasn't been bush bashing in the 90 series.

I don't think I've engaged low range since I had the clutch replaced last year.
