  • 1st gear problem

I am having this strange problem with my 1st gear some months now.The problem is that when i start moving with 1st gear inside , the gear is jumping out.
This Monday the transfer case will be opened and i am going to change all the parts of 1st gear(not me but the technician).
It started months ago but it was not so annoying but some days now it is very difficult to move with the 1st gear.
    My prado is a 2000 benzine 3.400 cc (VZJ95L)
Is anyone had this problem ?

    Re: 1st gear problem

I am having this strange problem with my 1st gear some months now.
Not really strange.. these are common symptoms of a worn/damaged transmission.

Worn shift selector, excessive backlash (front and rear bearings worn), Worn or damaged synchro teeth, Worn or broken detent springs or balls

This Monday the transfer case will be opened and i am going to change all the parts of 1st gear(not me but the technician).
He won't find 1st gear in the transfer case... try looking in the gearbox  . The transfer case is for reducing the overall drive ratio (ie; low range)

        Re: 1st gear problem

        for the parts i bought

While the gearbox is out, it would be worth having a good look at the clutch. If it's getting towards the end of its life then you could save a lot in labour costs by changing it while the gearbox is out anyway.

            Re: 1st gear problem

MickL i need your experience again.
After they changed all 1st gear pieces i am having a new problem .The 3dr 4th and 5th gear are not so steady, especially the 3d gear is coming out without the noise that i had with the 1st .
Also the 5th gear is going out sometimes.
I thing that the mechanic has done a mistake with the gearbox but i dont know what.
The car is in the workshop again !

Sounds like he's done something wrong on assembley (assuming you had no issues with 3,4 and 5 before the work?)

What new parts did you actually get put in?

the news are good but i have to test the car first,i just got a call to pick my car because it's ready...
he said that the problem was some external settings in the gearbox   i dont know anything about mechanics so i have to take it for a ride..
The new parts that i put in was all the set for 1st gear.
