  • Changing the LSD axle with a factory locker axle

    Hi
Pls inform me if the change of my original LSD axle with one cominig from a diesel LWB model is a straight swap concerning

    A. the diffs ratio (sowere I read that the diesel ratio is 4,3:1 instead of the petrol 4,1:1 - is that correct?? ) and

    B. Concerning the electrical story ???? ( the seller will provide me the complete axle + the wiring + the switches)

Thanks in advance for your help

Re: Changing the LSD axle with a factory locker axle

    90 series diff ratios:

    3RZ-FE engine = 4.300
1KZ-TE engine in RV and GX models = 3.909
1KZ-TE engine in GXL, TX and Grande = 4.100
    5VZ-FE engine in RV4 = 4.100
5VZ-FE engine in GXL, VX and Grande = 4.300

If using the factory set up you will need the switches, wiring loom and you will need the diff lock ECU. With the factory set up the diff lock only works in LOW range and speeds under 20kph.

Personally I'd wire it up minus the factory ECU with just and on/off switch so it can be used with out the low range/20kmph limitations.

If the axle you are looking at buying has different ratios to your vehicle then I'd imagine it's possible the crown and pinion gears could changed over with your originals.

How about a Lokka no wires , switches a lot less messing around and costs less . http://www.4wdsystems.com.au/gfx/specials_2.pdf.

Correct. In this case I will proceed as advised

because the seller will provide me the complete rear axle + the front diff maybe I will not open my axle but I will change it with the provided one and also I will change the front diff. ( if ratio is same I will only change the rear axle).

thx mick for both replies

In this case I would prefer an ARB or a Kam dif http://www.kamdiffs.com/

By the way does any one have experience of Kam diffs??? If yes is he satisfied?

          Thx raydes too
