Hi. Earlier today I came down the mountain after skiing, I had the trans in 2nd with the overdrive switched off and was on over run mostly all the way down. when I got to the bottom I put it into drive and switched the O/D back to on then the light started flashing and trans was doing strange things, I turn O/D to of and then back to on a few times and still the same thing. Then I pulled up, switched motor off for 30 secs then started up and drove home all normally. Any one experienced this before? My truck has 89,000 km on clock, trans oil is clean and on the correct level on dip stick

Seems to indicate a gearbox issue, either the lockup converter not working as expected thereby a difference in input/output ratio which should be constant when locked-up or a loss of one of the speed sensors. There's one on the input shaft & one on the output shaft.
I recently had my cruise light flashing & the speedo was either failing & the reading was varying a lot. It turned out to be either a dodgy speed sensor or a connector in the wiring loam as both where fixed at the same time & its now been several months without issues.

My 1998 diesel Prado having similar problems but the O/D light flashes only intermittently. Most of the time, the vehicle drives fine. But sometimes the O/D light starts flashing. When that happens, two other things happen: (1) noise starts coming from engine area (not sure exactly where.. sounds like a loud 'out of tune' diesel truck), and (2) significant power loss in low gear/start up hills. My mechanic thinks it my be (1) a blown transmission; (2) fuel pump problem; or (3) "some kind of electrical problem". Not very promising.. I live in Kenya so skilled technicians and diagnostic systems are pricey to access. Any suggestion?
Thanks
