  • Clutch ceases to disengage at times.

Hi all, I have a 1997 manual 2700 Prado. 1 week ago it went in for the 230,000 service. However yesterday my clutch started to feel abnormal. Where the clutch would pick up friction, then at times it now it doesn't disengage the clutch at all.

Last night I stopped for fuel. got back into the car and as I leave the car in gear when I turn it off I pushed the clutch in, hit the key and the car moved forward on the starter until it fired. But then as soon as it fired the clutch appeared to start working. As if it had vacuum assist. Which I'm pretty sure it doesn't. Also whilst I haven't 100% tested it I feel it may, if you keep the clutch pedal to the floor in gear, the car will started to move.

My feeling is that whilst it has no fluid leaks, the fluid is leaking past either the slave cylinder or master cylinder seals. Why the varying symptoms is what I don't know about. why only sometimes with one push of the clutch it all but has no disengagement example the fuel fill up case above and other times push the clutch put into gear and drive away.

One thing which I noticed when checking the clutch master cylinder is that the plastic reservoir rattles freely back and forth maybe 1 or 2mm. It's as if a seal has disappeared that it should sit in. But as I said no leaks and the fluid is at the correct height.

    Any thought please?

    Thank you all.
