  • Bi-Xenon kit in Stock lamps?

Any reason not to install a Bi-Xenon (High and Low beams) kit into the stock lamps? They are perfectly legal here in Costa Rica, so I am more concerned about mechanical issues.

The set I am looking at comes in either 55w or 35w. The company says it draws 6amps on ignition and 3.5amps while running.

Will the 55w be too hot? Any other reason not to upgrade to the HID kit. The only drawback I see people mentioning is the legality issues in Australia.

    Thanks in advance.

Not having HID but other negatives that I have heard is that the higher you go up in the light temperature scale the less likley you are to see potholes in the road. Based on that the suggestion was best to stick to 4300k. Do a search on that and you might find more comments than just myself.

I think I've also read various people indicating the effect of the lights when in rain is somewhat blinding as the light reflects back at the driver. Would probably want someone to confirm if this is true or a load of bollocks.

I have the 35w kit in my Prado. 35w is heaps for headlamps IMO. The light output is fantastic.
Schaffer is correct. The 4300k gives the most light, and the best light. Actually, all HID upgrades are illegal in Australia unless the vehicle passess strigent requirements such as self leveling suspension, and headlamp washers/wipers I think. The 4300k doesn't look so stark.... it is a more natural light. I live near a Highway Patrol Police Station, and they pinged a guy who lives up the road. He had 6000k lamps fitted. They don't like me, but haven't noticed my lights in the last 12 months, so I would always say, go with 4300k.
2008 Diesel Prado with extra stuff added. I drive it on the road and other places too.

I have 55W bixenon in my 90 and it works great. A bit anoying for oncoming drivers, so make sure the reflectors are good and keep the headlight glass clean and you should be fine. Also be sure they are correctly adjusted.

I have tried the 6000K first, now I have 4300K. Personally I like the 4300K best, looks like good halogen light just a lot more light.
