Hella 4000 compacts

Hi all
I'm looking at getting a new set of spotties as my 240 blitz are kinda crap and a little too big. I was looking at hella 4000 compacts but have heard from a few peole that there not too good anyone have any experiances with these lights. I was looking to put a hid conversion into them at a later date anyway. Also with my blitz's i have one of those combo lens on it but find it doesnt do to much and i would rather see a coupla hundred meters in front rather then 3 million kays down the road so i was looking at getting the hellas as both driving/spead anyone tried this before.

I haven't used the Hella 400 compacts myself as I have IPF 900XS's.
These come standard as a Spot & Spread combo which is adequate at best with the standard 65 watt halogen but does have a good spread pattern and spot beam.
I converted these to 55 wat HID with great results, the spot in fact became imo obsolete as the range of the spread increased so much, so I then replaced the Spot lense with a Spread beam lense. This works very well with the 55 watt HID as the range is well over 500m (reflects off road signs past a 1000m) but with a very wide spread

Traditionally Hella have a very good beam pattern so if you are going to "upgrade" to 55 watt HID I would fit 2 spread beams unless you have a specific need to see a long long way down a straight section of road.

Thanks for your reply. With the 55w hid are they alright or would you upgrade to the 70w as there about the same price

I am happy with the 55 watt, as for the 70 watt, I would see what size the ballasts are etc, plus some of the 70 watt lights don't seem have much more output in comparision. I have read that some of the higher wattage HID kits are not the real deal so would shop carefully.
