  • 2nd battery guard strength

I am looking at putting a second battery in - a deep cycle! The guy at the auto electricain sad he had heard of some problems with cracked guards when heavier battteries are used in Prados > 25kgs. Anyone heard anything similar or is this just a silly rumour!!

I've heard a similar rumour. No idea if it's true or not.

It may depend on what battery tray is used. Some bolt only to the
guard lining, others bolt to the guard and the inside of the body just
under the bonnet (where the charcoal canister is bolted to).

Mine is bolted to both locations, and has had a few thousand km
of badly corrugated road use with no problems at all.

      It certainly isnt a rumour
The ones that have cracked to my knowledge have been mounted behind the drivers side headlight
I ran one there for 3 years without problem in a V6
I have seen nearly identical installs in a diesel crack
There is acouple of threads in here with some pics of one cracked and various installations
I think the installation requires some good common sense and a good think about the sort of roads you will encounter
