  • Placement of Locker activation switch

I am getting an Eaton eLocker installed next week and I was thinking about where I should get the switch mounted.
My original thought was to use one of the slots on the centre console which is currently filled with a coin holder. There are 2 of them just behind the transfer lever. That would give me quick and easy access to it, if I need it in a hurry.
My only concern is that it may get bumped accidentally while driving on-road. The activation is silent, only a light, so I wouldn't know it straight away.

Where have other people mounted their locker switches?

In my old car they were in the blank spots behind the headlight switch area - near your electic mirror switches.

I mounted mine in a glass case with a little hammer which has a sticker: "In case of lost traction: break glass and activate switch"

I mounted my switches next to the dash illumination adjuster.

You might also consider ordering (maybe from the UK) the factory electric rear diff lock switch that we never got here in oz to illiterate the eaton locker. That would look sweet.

I put mine (air locker and compressor) in where the coin slots are.
I do need to keep an eye on the wife's handbag as to not flick the switches while she in the car... But as yet, no issues.

Pics are in my build up thread if you want to view them.
                Cheers, Leon

Mine are up near the keys/dash light control like Declan's.

It's common to have them in centre somewhere near the transmission, but I'd have concerns about them being switched by passengers/kids.

                        Hi Ian,

I ended up having the diff rebuilt as I had a couple of chipped teeth on the crown wheel, so costs blew out, but I was quoted $1925 installed. I had it done at Active 4x4 in Beresfield, NSW. They are an Eaton installer. They did a good job.

                          Hi Birdman,
Thanks for that, that's not bad price, I have had the same numbers for air lockers from ARB and TJM but I like the fact that there is no air line, thanks ianafloat

If Glen supplied the crown wheel, why did the cost blow out? They have to remove the crown wheel to install a locker any way and if your used existing pinion gear, where did the extra labour/parts come from? Did you get new bearing an seals too?

I don't begin to know what is involved in either the rebuild or the locker install, but all bearings etc were replaced. I'm guessing the pinion was already removed before it was found that the one from Glen wasn't going to be used. He pretty much only charged me for the extra parts, so I can't complain. I just have to find some free time to go and test it out
