  • Power Outlet Problems

I've a 97 model Prado, and I've had problems with the power outlets, front and rear. The rear has never worked since I bought it second hand, but on the cable leading directly to to the outlet and the back we have 12 volts. Now just recently the outlet at the front has died too, while I was using it. No bumps or jolts. I've checked all fuses and the relay in line. On the back of the outlet in the connector there we have 12 volts. But it doesn't reach the inside of the outlet. Anyone else had similiar issues? Can you get parts to fix that problem and perhaps improve the quality of the connection? Thanks,

    David

If you can fit a second battery then do so and wire it up to your 12V power outlets.

Neither of them are rated to cope with the amps needed for items such as fridges and compressors. Rather than have to muck around with alligator clips on the battery, I use the ORE cigarette plug in the rear for my Blue Tongue compressor.

I had my ORE rear re-wired to the second battery as well as a Narva outlet fitted next to it as well. That was 5 years ago and all has been good. I left the front one intact as I hardly use it except to re-charge the phone or run the GPS.

The problem is the socket itself. :?
If you look at the back of it you'll see the remains of what was once a link made of solder. This is like a fuse type thing - a real pain in you know where considering there's already a fuse for the 12V outlets!!!!!! :x
What you can do is simply go to you fav parts shop and get a couple more outlets of your choice that don't have this crappy self fused setup and you'll be laughing
      Cheers

        Re: Power Outlet Problems

Hi, i have a year 2000 prado vx diesel, and i had this same prob with my power and cigar lighter sockets until i read this,i changed the cigar lighter to a new one and resolved the problem,so its a big thank you to Mick especialy for using his time to help/advise us,it probably saved me a lot of money/time having to put it into an auto electricians,i repaired it in about 20mins so thanks again Mick !,but i didnt have a new power outlet to change it,also on the back of the power socket i stripped it and couldnt see anything resembling a fuse type thing ? but yes on both my sockets there is 12v power but nothing works when connected except the new cigar socket i put in that is now ok,anyway thanks again.
