hey guys, just got some 5w led daytime running lights. they come with their own wiring loom. all that is needed is to earth them, supply the power feed with 12v and plug them into the headlight loom for them to switch off when the headlights are turned on.

just one question, would it be safe to just take 12v off the fuel pump feed for the power supply. i would fuse the lights with something like a half amp fuse so if something happened the fuel pump fuse would be safe.

any help would be great

I wouldn't recommend altering any wiring to do with fuel, brakes or other safety systems. Surely there is another 12V supply in the engine bay.

Also, they wouldn't really be Daytime running lights if you need the headlights on to use them :-p

You need to get the accessory (make sure it is the accessory power feed, not the constant feed) power feed off of the wiper motor, and use the power feed off of the parker lights, the wiper motor is your trigger to turn on the DRL, and the parkers are the trigger to turn them off.

they don't need the headlights to work they use the headlights as a switch to turn off. after thinking about it ill leave the fuel alone and try find another feed, the power feed to the fuel pump isn't constant power, it requires the key to be turned for 12v to be sent to it.
i looked at the wiper motors but couldn't clearly see where the power lead was. ill have another look.
they are going in a 98 tx ltd diesel prado.

lifted the bonnet on the truck again after work and found the power lead to the wipers. I've worked out which wire is the power on with key so will use this to supply the lights with 12v. will post pics once all done. lights should arrive this week. cheers

I don't often get crabby about stuff like this, but my number one pet hate is ignorant twats driving around in broad daylight with fog lights on, usually falcons and commodores. If you wire them to the wipers for inclement weather, I can see the value in them. It's illegal in some states in Australia to use fog lights in good weather. Those fairy lights, I suppose they might be different seeing as the Audi 's and HSV have them standard now.

Sorry for the grumpiness, and if you have fog lights everyone, switch the bloody things off, unless there's, yep you guessed it! FOG!

I had an "incident" a few days ago where a fart box (wrx or something like it) came up behind me with fogs on. I moved to the left lane dropped back behind and courteously turned my fogs on out of respect. Seems my ARB bar spots were a little bright for him so he returned behind me and flashed his hi beams. Now I'm not the smartest cookie in the biscuit tin but why would you invite a 4wd with 3 spotties on the bar to such a challenge?

Out of shear respect for this young muppet, I let him pass and again and ensured no one ran up his rear. To be fair he copped my hibeam and spotties until he decided it was better to turn off abruptly.

I am now excited that I will be updgrading the spots to HID's, all 3 of them and the hi beams too. I hope I meet my new friend again

As I understand it the Daylight Running Lights (DRL) are designed to be seen ... not to light up the way ahead...

As for those wombats descibed by Reidy & MLC it amuses me how their "supposed" Fog lights dazzle drivers of other cars, because fog lights are designed such that the beam is very low and wide in order to be below the fog and prevent reflecting back. It would seem the car makers, bull bar makers etc. are installing driving lights not fog lights so when they actually need to use them in reduced visibility they are going to be useless.

And I must say I have had a perverse sense of satisfaction when I have seen one of the aforementioned wombats getting booked for incorrect use by a QLD copper
