Hi all, does anyone know where i can get the service manual or some sort of manual, pref PDF format, for my '97 VX Prado alternator? Does anyone know the current ouput for this alternator? im thinking of replacing the regulator with a 3 stage smart charging regulator to acheive max charge on my batteries. Any info will be great. Cheers.

What do you mean by a 3 stage smart charging regulator, as the regulator is internal to the alternator?DaveO

Regualtors
DaveO, thanks for the specs. From what i have read, the current regualtors on an alternator will only charge a battery to about 60-70% of capacity, enough to start a car but that about it, regardless of battery type. Whats more a gel or AGM battery contected straight to the alternator could damaged them. With a 3 stage charging regulator you have 3 stages of charge; bulk, absorbion and float, this is meant to give 100% capacity from the battery and whats more you can manualy select the type of battery installed, gel, AGM, wet cell as they require different charging techniques. As far as im aware the oringal regulator is removed and this device is connected to the alternator, but i'll confirm that. One such 3 stage regualtor that im looking at is Alpha Pro by Mastervolt.

The charge effect depends entirely on the electronic 3-stage regulator. The Alpha Pro has been specially designed for Mastervolt’s high output alternators and cannot be used with other alternators such as the Lucas, CAV, Valeo or Japanese models. It can be adapted to operate with a Bosch alternator, although only after some alterations have been made.
I'm assuming that since the alternator fitted is not Bosch, that there might need to be some adjustments.DaveO

Alternator 96 prado 2.7 4cyl
Hi,
Wondering if anyone can help me. Installed a set of 100w driving lights today. When they are operating at idle. They seem to be straining the alternator.
I was wondering if anyone knows the rated output of this alternator.
Thanks
Joel
