I have a set of Turini's on the front of the Prado and they eat globes at an awesome rate,in 12 months and i have replaced the globes in each about 5 times and at $7.50 each it's giving me the s*%^& also have replaced the globe holders once  . I have removed the clear plastic covers and this helped alot and they were installed by OL. Wanting to know if anyone out there has found a HID conversion.

Hello Stingsprado,
I fitted a hid kit to my Hella 4000's about 12 months ago and so far so good. I paid $150 delivered on fleabay. Kits are getting cheaper but I would only buy off a local supplier just in case there are any issues. The kit I got were 6000k but i reckon they are a bit too blue - 4300k would have been better. You won't ever have to change bulbs either - there is no filiment in the bulb.

Just using the standard 100w but have found that using Phillips or other European brands better the Jap ones. I use to own a monkey's misscarriage that I fitted those IPF 135w things too and I found the same if you used 100w they would last longer, and for some reason it was only the right side one.

I used to use 130w globes on my old car & they constantly blew. Interestingly they never blew when they were on, only when they were being turned on, much like a normal house light globe does. I put this down to one reason only. I had updated the cabling to the lights which inturn meant that the inrush current to the globes was a lot higher & I suspect the cause for the failures. Once warmed up the current drops back & the lights work fine.
Ideally you would want better cables to give a better brightness, but in this instance I think they are detrimental to the life of the globes.
I currently run the 65W fat boys from IPF in mine, still going strong after 4 years that I have owned the car. Effective output is around 100w....but the initial outlay is a little high (around $50-$60 a globe).
The other thing that can destroy globes is a bad earth. It effectively switches the globes on & off & puts extreme stress on the filiment. People tend to wire a good positive supply but neglect the negative. They should be treated as equals to get the best performance from the lights.
My suggestion is to go for 100W globes, well known brand, the fat boys or a HID upgrade. Remember you can take your driving lights generally to your next vehicle....you could have HID lights for life....!
