  • Landcruiser Prado VX cd player swap 90 series

Hi people, got my folks prado here and what can i say, its the most shottiest sound ive heard in my life :O

okay , its a 2000 update model spec, Vx prado,

got a standard toyota cd player hooked up to the stacker under the front passenger's seat.

Ive dealt with taking out the fascia panel before so thats not a biggy.

im just wondering if i can just 'plug and play' with the cd player, as in remove the old one and straight plug in a new one. or do i have to get new wiring or so fourth? looking just to get a mp3/cd player around the $130 mark. any suggestions.

    thanks people.

    ray.

    Hi Ray,

Ive recently replaced my factory player that had a 10 CD stacker plugged in the radio aerial connection more or less working as a FM modulator.
Firstly you must find out if you stacker is this sort, secondly find out the type of plug you have on you new head unit. You may very easily just swap over this type of connection. You will have to purchase a workshop manual and find the audio wiring diagram. I bought the "Haynes" manual and it does cover your year model and only costs $40. You will have to pull the wiring out as far as you can and strip back the covering to identify the colours on the cable before cutting. Your new head unit will require alot less cables then supplied factory wise as there are cables connected from the ECU that arnt nessesary. In all you should be finding the premanent power, ignition power and ground. Once you have established these, label and connect using bullet or spade lugs (for future removal). It now would be safe to turn on the head unit and establish that you have power. The next step is the speakers, please take note of the polarity, ie' + - connections. By this stage you should be getting sound through the speakers as you connect them. I found the wiring the opposite to the head unit, so you should just make contact to see it working before making a permanent join. There will also be a wire to your aerial motor, its a matter of locating this and plug in, good luck,

    Zook.

thanks guys for the reply, ill be off tomorrow....
      just one more point

do you think the sound quality is due to the head unit or the speakers?

when you put the volume up to semi-loud/loud, there is crackling and hissing and other stuff like that :S

mainly changing headunits due to this reason so will it fix that up or would i need new speakers too :S

      cheers.
