    What a crazy car.
Was running perfectly and then first start next day, all the warning lights stayed on after the engine was running.(1KZ-TE)
I thought it was all over, didn't even recognise some of the lights but nothing seized so I began looking at wiring diagrams etc.
Multi meter showed no charge going to the batteries but why would all the warning lights kick in, why not just the battery light????
Long story short, fitted an e-bay alternator and she's all good again.
I'll get the original overhauled and keep it for a spare.
    They're a baby unit, only 70amps.
Even the R32 had a 90amp alternator and she wasn't happy when in the rain with high-beam, ATTESSA etc drawing power.

After doing an alternator on my petrol 90 series I was wondering why the brake light stayed on looking at the dash circuit diagram shows a diode between the alternator light and the brake light I think its there as a lamp test function for the globes .
I got myself some Big Horn Maxxis and was telling my landrover lover mate he said what size did you get I told him 265/75/16 he said I didn't know they came that small.

      Yes that makes sense.
Was one reason I started looking at the alternator as a possible fault.
Then I found guys on Facebook (Mighty 90's) with the same symptoms so felt more encouraged to fork out $$$ for the alternator.
So good to have her running again.

When the alternator's not putting charge into the battery the battery light, hand brake light and air filter light all come on.
Piece of advice though, if your alternator goes when you're in the middle of nowhere and you run your battery flat. No big deal if you have another car with you and jumper leads, or solar panels. If your battery is in reasonably good or new condition just charge it full and you can drive your car for a good 6 hours on the highway until it runs down again and needs re-charging. Just don't use the wipers and limit the use of the power windows. Keep the radio and aircon off, and if you don't have to use your head lights, brake lights and blinkers then this will enable you to drive for 6 hrs. You'll be able to either get home or to a place you can get it fixed. I found out the hard way when all the way out at Canarvon Gorge a few years back. I was able to drive it back to Toowoomba on a fully charged battery. We charged it from dead flat with jumper leads from my friends car and she was good to go the day we left to come home. Sometimes too if you soak your crapped out alternator with dishwashing liquid and water it will enable an electrical connection to charge your battery for a little while until it dries out. Again, enough driving time to get you to where you need to go to get it fixed. Clean water doesn't harm alternators and neither do car washing liquids, but dirty or muddy water will do it no favours.
