Prado Starting Problem - Intermittent

Hi all,

I have a 1998 Prado GXL, petrol. Recently it has developed a starting problem which is starting to become a real pain. I will go to unlock the car with central locking and the indicators will flash however the car won't unlock. I can unlock the car with the door key. When I turn the key to start the car, nothing will happen. No dash lights, stereo, horn - however the headlights will still work. Sometimes if I leave the keys set to accessories for long enough, everything will turn on and the car will start as normal. I've taken it to the auto elecs but the car runs fine when I take it there, the issue doesn't occur (obviously - wouldn't be that easy :mrgreen: )

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this,

Sounds like an issue with an alarm or immobiliser. Does it have anything like this fitted?

Ranj might be able to shed some more light?

Hi Piggy,

Definitely doesn't have an alarm; and I'm not too sure about an immobilizer either. I don't seem to have an immobilizer light anywhere
