  • Colour Code for high beam cable

Good morning everyone. I am installing spotties on my 02 prado and the instructions say to connect the red wire to the high beam cable. I could use a multimeter, but does any one know what colour the high beam wires that goes into the back of the headlight unit, as thta is the only palce I can access to join it? I have 3 wires 2x red with bluish dots & 1 red wire with a bluish stripe. thanks

I have just installed spotties and used the wire that goes to the horizontal pin (top pin) on the globe. Cant remember the colour though.

Re: Colour Code for high beam cable

I'll be using this info later today when I throw on the spotties BUT in my 2006 TD GXL the colours are different. The High Beam wire is Red with a white Stripe and the Low Beam is Red with a Green Stripe. I wonder if anyone else has seen different combinations. I have checked the above using a multimeter and no I'm not colour blind. I haven't check on the third wire going into the headlight unit which is at the bottom on the plug but I've assumed this is the negative.

Will take some photos and post for confirmation.

Re: Colour Code for high beam cable

There is existing threads on this, but you cannot connect to the headlight wiring as a standard setup, the switch (+) and negative for your relay MUST come from the headlight loom as it is a floating ground.
If you only take the switch (+) it will fritz around.

Is it (looking at rear of bulb)

            Left - Gnd
            Right - High Beam
            Top - Low Beam

Don't rely on color codes unless you are using the diagram for your specific model year. They do sometimes get changed over time.

Best to trace back from the globe and confirm with a test light before cutting into the loom.

Ok, having just gone down this path as well since getting my spots (just waiting for the bar before mounting) here is what I found with a multimeter on a 08 d4d.

Oh the LHS light assembly - Pin 1 (Red/White)
On the RHS assembly - Pin 3 (Red/White)

It's the same pin on both sides... a H4 globe has pin configuration as I posted before...

Re: Colour Code for high beam cable

It's all good for me. I spoke to TP earlier today and now I understand the issue.

Oh and by the way, sorry for hijacking this 90 Series thread into a 120 series discussion. Didn't realise it until late.
