Hello everyone,

I have a 2000 Prado Grande and a large stereo for it from previous cars, none similar to a Prado.

Anyone else done a large system find any electrical issues in their 90 series Prado?

A biggie is; How good is the stocker altenator and regulator system, will it find 6 amplifiers a problem?

Hi Rich,

That old school Apline gear brings back some memories, I've a CDA-7949, CHA-S609 and PXA-H600 along with 3 Orion amps, a Ref 300 and PPE 6 way active crossover all sitting idle in my cupboard. Not to mention the Dyns still waiting to be installed :roll:

I haven't fitted it up to my Prado as the disc mechanisms don't really like the outback roads ... so went with a Kenwood double din with IPod connect, USB etc as much more suitable for the use my Prado gets, but I do miss that clean sound and staging from the Alpine units (especially the stacker S/N 114db)

I would think the alternator would be ok as long as you didn't drive the amps to hard, I would probably fit a decent cap to help stabilize the volts a bit though.

Let us know how your install ends up as it might spur me on to finally fit the Dyns lol.

My inspiration is guys like Mark Eldridge, his 4 Runner and the various builds are awesome. Also shows you can a Prado to image well enough to consider the long process of installation..

I've only had the Prado for two weeks now, so I have alot of testing to do.

There are factory dashtop locations far sides near A Pillars and the pillars themselves are an easy fix, so a set of 4 inch splits there and another set in the doors above an 8 in each door should provide a solid height adjustable soundstage. All active, though lower splits may cross differently to upper.

Rear stage is a question of lower rear door or construction of a shelf above the sub enclosures and amp racking. I'm considering a set of 4 inch co-ax's run actively with 3 8's across behind the centre seat row.

Rear row of seats are scheduled for removal soon, before wife notices they're there...

the aim is basically Wemberly on wheels so that's why such solid midbass, traditionally an area most pro/expert cars lack and lose points in, both the states and here (I was a pro class sound quality judge)

no flash neons and stuff for me though, form follows function.

Another aspect of the prado 90 series is low centre console; minimal reflections of sound. High consoled cars are bad for relections unless you consider a custom dash and front stage array above steering wheel column height.

I'll be sitting the iPhone in the Prado using it's RTA app to get an idea of how a Prado sounds over the next week or so..
