  • What is this?

Apologies for what is probably an ignorant question - what is this part? Have been googling but can't find it.

Looks like an solenoid which is just a heavy duty relay. Looks like it only has one set of cables? A small trigger connected to an ingnition source and the the larger cable to the main battery? Previous owner probably had a cable running to the back for a camper. When ignition is off the solenoid opens and disconnects the main battery from the load.

I second this - looks like a 12v contactor for an extra load, as

mjrandom says probably for a camper of some sort.

Thanks everyone. Is connected to +ve main (as opposed to +ve aux) on my isolator. Can't see where it goes from there. I assume back to the cranking battery +ve.

Have you got a winch? A big old nasty solenoid like that one draws a heap of power and is rarely left on as in a 2nd battery setup.
Power to a winch is a typical use with a dash mounted switch to engage that solenoid which in turn sends power to your winch contactor.
