  • Remote locking system installation

    Hi there,

FIrst, any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. I thank you in advance for your time offering your information.

I have a 96 TX Prado that i have installed a remote locking system in, however, i have discovered upon doing so, that the motor of the central locking system appears not to work on the drivers side door. All other door locks work. I figured that the likely issue is that the drivers door central locking motor had failed, but on replacing the central locking mechanism with a replacement unit, same thing happened. So, either both units have failed, or there is an issue else where . I am certain central locking exists in the vehicle as my dad has one (albeit a 97 model) and his works the way it should...So, im after any advice as to how i can test where the failure is. If anyone has access to a wiring schematic such that i can test whats going on.. Im not an autoelectrician, but have a fairly good understanding of electrical systems.. Any help greatly appreciated

Wiring? The section connecting the door to the body is always being moved and worn when you open the door, and the drivers is the most common door of course. Worth metering out the connections with door open and shut.

FWIW both my front connections are fine and the rubber boots are fine but both back ones have deteriorated and I've had to 'temporarily' patch them with electrical tape

Hi, yep, could be a wiring fault. The central locking motor assembly has two wiring looms connected to it, im assuming one is power supply, one is indication to the other motors, such that when you lock the drivers door, they all lock etc. Any idea where i would find a wiring schematic or something so i know which wire is for what? I have also heard mention that maybe the drivers door and the remaining doors do have separate 12V supplies, so it could be that the remote locking unit has only picked up one of the two, and thats why the drivers door locking isnt working..

Send me a PM with your email, I have a full factory wiring diagram for the 90 series.
