My Tacho is working intermittently, any ideas why?

Hi guys! i have a 1997 petrol toyota prado, the VZJ95 engine! since owning it the tacho has been not working or working very very sporadically, there is no real rhyme or reason for when it does or doesn't start working! but i do want to check off the potential "dirty sensor" before taking it to get fixed.

anyone have any ideas where the Tacho sensor is so that i can try giving it a clean and check the wiring! will also take any advice on what it could be!

I have the same issue in my 97 Prado too. I'm yet to figure out what's causing the issue though.
