installing keyless entry

hey guys,
i have a 1998 prado with central locking but no keyless entry. i want to get one installed buy they seem way too expensive.
ive seen some kits on ebay for like 30 bucks. Is it a simple job to install myself, any thoughts?

I fitted a simple kit on my daughter Daewoo lanos. It had central locking but no keyless. Just had to mount the control box behind side driver kick plate and run three wires through to the door, that was hardset part getting wires through the soft rubber conduit that was already there. the solenoid connected to the door lock actuator shaft and simply screwed inside the door panel. All up took about a hour to fit.

I have the same car as you and it comes out as an option to have the remote central locking from factory. All you need is the control module which just plugs into the original wiring loom, cost about $80 from Toyota from memory and takes about 5 min to fit and the remote buttons, approx $35 each. Much cheaper than adding an alarm and its all factory.

When I did mine they first ordered a larger unit that was off a 120 Prado and had trouble finding the correct part. If you get stuck let me know I will find the part number for you.

I have ordered my kit off Ebay. Will try and do a detailed install (thats if i can do it).
Seems quiet simple,
Will take some photos and let you know, (Prob 2 or 3 weeks, Slow Postage.)

Really easy to install...
basicly just find a 12v and an earth, conect the wires as per the diagram in the box.
then i just hooked a wire to the lock and unlock button on the dash.
was installed in less then 15 minutes.

do you have the Toyota part numbers for this mate ?

Is the remote buttons a seperate unit ?

stick with the genuine toyota keyless entry upgrade.
just plugs straight in and press the included remotes and your going in under 7 minutes.
no tools required
