  • HID UPGRADE

I am considering upgrading my headlights to HID as there are many kits available on ebay, has anyone had any good/bad experience with HID headlights, also wandering how the low/high beam works as they are advertised as 35watts as opposed to the std 55w/65w globe. I have a 2000 Prado with acrylic headlights. Thank you regards Graham.

    Re: HID UPGRADE

    Hey Graham

The HID conversion is not legal on any vehicle that has a single headlight, you can only do it on a twin headlight system and then only on the high beam side.
You would be better off getting a headlight upgrade, this will replace the std wiring for some better quality ones as well as put in some good relays, this will prevent any voltage drop to the bulbs, please don't put in stronger light bulbs as you will melt your light.

Thanks crooza that makes perfect sense, have researched into the archives and found a post regarding upgrading the globes using either Philip extreme Power +80% or Narva Blue Power +80% and looking into some hid driving lights, that should take care of the lighting and I will keep working on the wish list as I have just bought a stock std prado after owning a few GQ's over the last 15 years. regards Graham

Go the Philips 80%, they are better all round, the Narva Blue (or any other brand in blue) you loose the light output in wet/damp conditions, yes they give a good white light, but they are really only good in dry conditions.
