  • TVSS Remote

    Hi All

I have just purchased a (slightly dented) '97 VX Grande at auction. It has the TVSS security system, which is all wonderful, except it only has one remote and Toyota don't sell them any more.

    Part number: 08191-00900.

Evidently I can program another remote to the car if I can get hold of one.

    Questions:

    1. Does anyone know where I can get hold of one of these?
    2. Can I use a different remote, e.g. one for a different model Toyota (there are some earlier remotes to suit "Landcruiser" and "Carina" available on Ebay UK and US. Very similar part numbers, i.e. 08191-xxxxxx

    Cheers

    Owen

      Hi Owen
Check with another Toyota dealer, there is a requirement by law (if your in OZ) that the manufacturer must have parts available for a minimum of 10 years after the last build of that model, and since the 90 series was built up till 2002-2003, they must have that part. Wont be cheap though, I had mine repaired a couple of years ago by Toyota as the transmitter/emobilizer stopped working, and it cost nearly $1000.
      Alternitively you can try Ebay
97 VX Grande, with front & rear air lockers, ARB Sahara winch bar with tigers 11 winch, 2" EFS lift, 265/75/16 Achilles Desert hawk XMT, and more.

        Re: TVSS Remote

        hey,

you could also try a good locksmith. i have one over here on the Fraser Coast that carries remotes and the scan tool to re programme key head units.

        worth a look around

            Re: TVSS Remote

OK - so I have solved this.
This is an "Alpine Series 2" unit made by Alpine for Toyota.
It is "the most complicated remote system" possible for the year (so says the one guy at the Toyota dealership who actually knew what it was).

I bought 2 remotes from a guy who had a job lot (thank you, ebay).

I got them coded by my local toyota dealer, who charged $200. They had to rip part of the dash apart to get at the TVSS computer, pull it out and remove and re-code some sort of ROM card. I now have 3 working remotes.

FYI, as far as I can determine, it is not possible to use anything other than the correct remote.
