    Re: remote central locking

My Prado is a 2001 GXL & all I needed to buy was the fobs & followed the setup procedure found here somewhere.......(bought car second hand without fobs but it did have an alarm system which I promptly removed)

Not sure how you can diagnose if you have the required electrics already though...perhaps all GXL & above do?

    Cheers

    Re: remote central locking

if your car already has central locking with a central locking switch on the dashboard, the job is quite easy.

just follow the instruction of the kit, connect all positive and negative wiring for the system.

Positive can take from the main wiring to ignition switch which will keep constant +12V when the key is off.
Negative can take anywhere under the dashboard.

in order to control central locking with keyless entry, just connect only 2 wiring from the kit. One for lock, one for unlock to the two wiring from behind the switch.
There will be 3 wiring behind the switch. I am quite sure two of them will be green, and green/blue with small white dots. the last one will be white (or other color, this one will have (+) 12V).

Connect 2 wiring from the kits to either of two green, green/blue with small white dots to check which one is lock/unlock. It will not damage the system UNLESS you connect them to the positive line.

The master module can be installed under the dashboard, for me, I installed the whole alarm security + shock sensor with a lot of wiring under the dashboard but behind the radio and emergency button in the center of the dashboard.

Hope you done it before reading this

    Re: remote central locking

I have the same car as you and it comes out as an option to have the remote central locking from factory. All you need is the control module which just plugs into the original wiring loom, cost about $80 from Toyota from memory and takes about 5 min to fit and the remote buttons, approx $35 each. Much cheaper than adding an alarm and its all factory.

When I did mine they first ordered a larger unit that was off a 120 Prado and had trouble finding the correct part. If you get stuck let me know I will find the part number for you.

    Re: remote central locking

As a guess do u just hook up a 12V possitive and find a ground then 1 wire to the switch?
    Couldn't be that easy...
And do you put the unit in the drivers side kick panel?

Using the door lock switch should be fine and because yours is dash mounted, it should be a walk in the park to install.

    remote central locking

looking at putting in remote central locking....
    Ordered a kit of eBay.
If anyone has done this any advice would be appreciated.
Had an idea of hooking the remote unit up the the switch where you can lock the doors on the dash.
Not sure If this would work. Just an idea.... any thoughts?
Working...
