The article in this months 4WD monthly made it sound very simple. I think finding somewhere under the bonnet for it to fit might be the hardest part.

Hopefully someones already worked that out cause I'd like to install one as well.
    Cheers, Leon

Sorry I don't have any pics handy right now, so a text explanation will have to do :?

From memory, I think it is Opposite Lock, that do a battery tray that goes where the charcoal canister sits currently (rear of engine bay, passenger side). The canister is then relocated. I bolted the canister bracket to the side of the new tray and installed it there. This also requires soldering//lengthening the electrical connector that goes to the canister, and replacing some of the hoses that go to it with new/longer pieces of fuel hose - all fairly straight forward.

I used a Redarc dual battery controller, and mounted it in the location behind the passenger side headlight (between the rear of the headlight, and the original battery). I'm sure there are other locations that could be used, and there are definitely other controllers/solenoids, etc available.

Hopefully that makes a bit of sense, and helps you.

I FITTED MINE WITHOUT MOVING MUCH AT ALL. THE 2ND BATTERY BASICALLY SITS DIRECTLY ON THE WHEEL ARCH DRIVERS SIDE. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO FIND A BATTERY THAT FITS DUE TO HEIGHT LIMIT WHEN PUTTING IT THERE. THE BATTERY TRAY SQUEEZED IN AND ALL WENT IN REAL GOOD.

I CANNOT REMEMBER RELOCATING ANYTHING AT ALL. AS A MATTER OF FACT MY BROTHER AND I (READ BROTHER RATHER THAN THE I) DID IT OVER LAST XMAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A CARAVAN PARK AT MANNING POINT MUCH TO THE DISGUST OF BOTH OUR MISSUS WHO THOUGHT WE SHOULD BE RELAXING WHILST ON HOLIDAYS. WHEN WE SAID IT WAS OUR WAY OF RELAXING WE JUST GOT STRANGE LOOKS. IF YOU WANT ANY PHOTOS LET ME KNOW AND I WILL TRY GET SOME ON LATER. CHEERS MICK

            Hey Mick,

First time I've heard from some-one using the drivers side area. All the setups/trays I've seen have been for the passenger side. Got any pics of what you did?

In my case the drivers side area is already taken up with the compressor for the air-locker.

hi john - i just got home from work, seen your message so thought i would go grab a photo of the engine bay only to find the mrs has taken the car off to work.

she wont get in until late 2nite so i will try get to do it for you 2morrow nite all going well.

it was a real easy fit on that side. only thing was making sure the battery height was right. i bought all the bits from supercheap except the battery last xmas. also had to cut one of the battery tie down bolts down due to height but wasn't hard.

i will get them on 2morrow or the weekend - thanks mick

just taken photos showing the 2nd battery on the drivers side.

i find it really handy when jump starting someone as i can use either side of car - dont have to worry about where the other cars battery is.

                  anyway hope it is helpful

dual battery power packs and solar charging

                      Hi,

does anyone have any experience of the National Luna PowerPack (http://www.nationalluna.com/PPPack.htm)? I am looking for a dual battery setup for my 99 Snowy (GXL) to power my Waco 50ltr fridge and I would like ability to be able to move the fridge (and the battery) out of the car for camping. I would also like the option of plugging in a solar panel setup to the power pack to charge the battery when the car is not used.

Anyone have any experience of such a setup?

                      Cheers

                      Dave

Re: 2nd Battery set up for V6 GXL

Copied from my rig build up thread... Petrol V6 with ABS.

The starter battery was moved to the space the charcoal canister used to occupy. (we tried for two deep/starter batteries but the space was about 10mm to small )

The front cradle was replaced to take the deep cycle battery. Allrounder MRV70L 105AH.

The cable on the left runs directly to the fridge in the cargo area. I'll take a pic where it is in the back when I get the car back (oh, and don't worry that the wing nuts loose... these shots were so I knew where to put everything after I took the deep cycle out to charge ops: )

Baintech Voltage Control Relay is mounted to the charcoal canisters previous mount.

The charcoal canister needed to be moved so we could get as big a deep cycle in as possible. It's mounted on the back of the fan guard.
                        Cheers, Leon

                          Thanks Leon,

a well documented setup. But I was looking for solutions where I could remove the battery to leave with the fridge so it could be used separate from the car and also have an option to plugin a solar charging solution.

                          Cheers

Hi Dave, have you looked at the Thumper batteries ? They seem to have a good rep, they come in a variety of sizes up to 105 amp hr. The sidewinder flyer pack looks like a good idea to.
I'm thinking about getting one of these systems myself as i like the idea of being able to remove the battery and use it around the campsite for fridges etc.

                              Cheers,
